evan roth's notes from the Copyright R.I.P. panel discussion at FITC:

In doing research for this panel I read (and loved) Lawrence Lessig's
book Free Culture which I highly recommend.

I briefly showed the following projects in an effort to illustrate important
artistic and creative outlets that should not have to ask permission in
re-appropriating elements from our own culture.

Cory Arcangel:
Super Mario Clouds
Totally Fucked

Jason Salavon:
Every Playboy Centerfold, The Decades (normalized) 2002

Jim Campbell:
Illuminated Averages, Hitchcock's Psycho
Illuminated Averages, Fleming's Wizard Of Oz

Read My Lips:
Bush and Blair Sing Endless Love

DJ Danger Mouse:
the Grey Album

From conversations and readings related to this panel I was also inspired
to make my own copyright questioning "art" piece which is now in production.
I'm editing down the entire N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton album into only the
explicit content. Samples can be heard on my blog here, and here.
Thanks to everyone involved with the panel, it was a pleasure meeting you
and I learned a lot!
